Linda Crikelair's music fits no ready made genre. She travels in song,
combining her own experiences and musical discoveries in the diversity
of our world of sound. Inside one song the listener can dip into several
suggestive styles. The combining of primal tones, modal scales, repetitive
phrases of 4 bar sequences, and unexpected structures gently guide the
listener to subtile levels of hearing. The poetic texts are allegories of
contemporary questioning, relating to who we are as individuals and where
we are going as a "global tribe." With the blending of actual word sounds
to the music created, there seems to be no separation between the music
and what is being said.
Her clear, sincere voice sings humanly to the
ears, reminding us of our
own fragility. Her voice explores depth of
tone. The
soothing, caressing
fingerpicking brings to focus the full, natural harmonics
of the acoustic
guitar. Vincent Carrière's carefully selected, often surprising weaving of
warm bass phrases enhances the melody of the voice
and the harmonies
of the guitar, reassuring the listener of gravity and safety
in the low sounds.
Raphaël Dupont offers his palette of percussion from
around the world:
Indian tablas, calabashes with water from Mali, djembé
from West Africa,
congas, rainsticks. He enriches the pulse and tone of the
songs with his
fascinating energy. Sylvie Gimmig Clark presents a theatrical danse to interpret the
text and
music of the songs. Her conscious choice of physical
movements captivate
the audience by opening a sense of space around her
as well as
integrating the group.
The total performance becomes a living painting of sound. An invitation
to the listener to be(come) timeless with the artists on a tour of the
world in song.
